A clinical-stage company with a single confirmatory Phase 3 trial left to run does not typically strip its founder of operational control — but that is precisely the bet BeyondSpring’s board made when it announced a full leadership overhaul effective July 1, 2026. Founder Lan Huang, who shepherded the company through a Nasdaq listing and three global Phase 3 studies, steps back to Chairman while turning day-to-day authority over to an entirely new management layer: incoming CEO Min Qiu, CFO Na Li, and newly elevated Vice Chairman Jen Majeti. The logic is blunt — DUBLIN-4 demands undivided attention, and Huang is simultaneously running SEED Therapeutics as Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO.
The asset at the center of this restructuring is Plinabulin, a GEF-H1 agonist whose most compelling data come from the 559-patient DUBLIN-3 trial, published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine in 2024. That study showed the plinabulin-docetaxel combination doubled two- and three-year survival rates in second- and third-line EGFR wild-type NSCLC patients post-ICI, while simultaneously cutting grade 4 neutropenia from 33% to 5%. That tolerability number is not incidental — it is the commercial thesis. DUBLIN-4 is the confirmatory program built directly on those results, and the board’s entire governance restructuring exists to protect its execution.
BeyondSpring is also leaning into a broader narrative around ADC combinations. Recent AACR 2026 preclinical data showed plinabulin combined with Dato-DXd and T-DXd produced higher complete tumor regression rates in models, a data point the company frames as directly relevant given that TROPION-Lung01 and EVOKE-01 demonstrated leading ADCs struggled to outperform standard chemotherapy in certain lung cancer settings. Whether preclinical synergy translates is a separate question entirely, but the IP runway — composition-of-matter protection through 2036, potentially 2041 with Hatch-Waxman extension across 40-plus jurisdictions — gives the company time to run that argument. Worth noting: plinabulin’s prior FDA history includes a 2021 Complete Response Letter for its neutropenia NDA, which means the new management team inherits both a scientifically differentiated asset and a regulatory relationship that requires careful tending.
The single consequence worth tracking: whether Qiu’s mandate to “build BeyondSpring’s global partner and investor base” — specifically the CFO’s explicit focus on Asian and international capital markets — produces a partnership or licensing deal before DUBLIN-4 reaches its primary endpoint. That transaction, not the trial itself, is the near-term signal that this governance restructuring actually created the focused execution the board is betting on.
